Life Post Therapy
One significant milestone that individuals going through a difficult period can reach, is accepting the idea of attending therapy.
It can be noted that embracing new experiences can be difficult, especially if you are used to living under a veil of grief. For a person who has been struggling with adapting to the new life post-therapy, these are a few essential tips that can help you navigate it:
- REFLECT ON YOUR THERAPEUTIC JOURNEY: Focusing on realizations, coping skills, and personal development helps you better absorb teachings and apply them to your daily life.
- MAINTAINING MENTAL HEALTH: Maintaining mental health is crucial, even after therapy. This can be achieved through self-care routines and engaging in enjoyable activities and hobbies for stress relief and relaxation.
- ACKNOWLEDGMENT: Acknowledging that healing is an ongoing endeavor so embrace setbacks and don't be too hard on yourself. Setting reasonable expectations for personal growth is also helpful during this phase.
- TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF: Self-care cannot be overemphasized, so incorporate practicing self-compassion, treating yourself with love, reward yourself for every milestone reached and goals accomplished as you navigate life’s challenges. This will help you not to put your healing journey on hold but to embrace it thoroughly for progress's sake.
- SEEK SUPPORT: Don't go on this journey alone. Ensure that social support systems are established and managed by fostering deep connections with loved ones, friends, and family and discussing well-being openly with them, as well as seeking help when the need arises.
- THERAPY DOESN'T END HERE: Have it in mind that ongoing therapy is a continuous resource, so you can be equipped to handle unforeseen difficulties. So regular check-ins with therapists are beneficial during major life events or transitional times.
In conclusion, participate in self-improvement activities like reading self-help books, attending seminars, journalling, and discovering new interests to enhance self-awareness and promote ongoing improvement.
Note: Therapy does not take away the hurt you feel from painful memories. It cannot erase trauma or grief; the pain from those memories will remain. Instead, therapy teaches you how to coexist with the pain.
